Game launch and the road ahead
Holy shit what a ride. It’s been nearly a month since I published The Crimson Rose Knight, my introduction into the world of game development. I’m not completely satisfied with the current state of the game but I am still overjoyed to have met this milestone of being a published game developer. Having the game published and “getting it out there” has strengthened my motivation and fueled my development progress and I can’t express how excited I am for the final vision for this creative endeavour.
One important announcement I would like to make is that this game will be transitioning from a graphical retro CRPG to a modern take on a text adventure role-playing game. Text adventures from the 1970s like Zork and Colossal Cave Adventure have captivated me since I was a small kid. The literary possibilities were endless and could accomplish things in games that graphical-based games could never dream of. The text adventure genre is one of the very oldest in video games and I have always dreamed of the prospect of doing a modern take that draws from a deep literary well. When that major update is published that births The Crimson Rose Knight in its evolved text adventure form, my hope is that everyone who played the game previously will be very happy with the new direction. Thank you all again for giving a solo developer a chance.
